The Grove was set up at the beginning of 2001 as an outreach by the Marist Brothers (FMS) to young adults (19-35 years). Young adults come and live in community for a year, paying a nominal fee to cover costs. They continue with their usual study or work, as well as social interests. The Grove is a nine bedroom house located 2 minutes from Waterloo Station in Lower Hutt.
Despite what some people think, the young adults living here are not prospective Sisters, Brothers or Priests! All people in the community are living in a supportive Catholic environment which offers them opportunities to get involved in various forms of community service and faith based ministry that fits in with their work, study or social activites.
Br Douglas Dawick, one of the founders of The Grove, and Br Kieran Fenn, who moved into The Grove in 2003 after living in Manila, Philippines.
If you are passing through the Wellington area and need a bed for a night, look us up. If you are only staying a night or two, you don’t have to do any housework! Or if you are after a challenge in your life, maybe a year of community living could be what you are looking for!
