Evening Prayer

Review of the Day

A time of contemplative prayer focusing on what God is doing in your day.

Use this process for evening prayer each day.

Call to Prayer:

Spend a few minutes in silence to allow your body and mind to slow down and to become aware of the presence of God.  Asking that you may be open to the grace you are hoping for during this time of retreat.

Psalm:

If you wish, one of the following psalms could be prayed at this time.

Day 1 - Psalm 146

Day 2 - Psalm 145

Day 3 - Psalm 66

Day 4 - Psalm 147

Day 5 - Psalm 67

Day 6 - Psalm 117

Day 7 - Psalm 131

Day 8 - Psalm 136

Prayer for Enlightenment:

Ask the Holy Spirit to make you aware of what He wants you to listen to now.

Holy Spirit of God,

open the ears of my heart that I may be aware

of what You would have me be aware of at this time.

Discernment:

Ponder, like Mary, on the events of the day.

Allow the experiences of the day to come into your awareness.

Let God take control – whatever comes, simply allow it to stay.

How has the Lord been calling you this day?

How did you respond?

Sorrow and Gratitude:

Humbly ask forgiveness for your weaknesses and lack of generosity.

Be grateful for the Lord’s healing grace.

Gracious God,

I ask forgiveness for my weakness, for my lack of generosity.

Through your grace may I seek to be more like you.

Focus for the Future:

What are your present feelings?

What have you learnt from today?

Trusting in God’s merciful love, pray for the grace

to respond with more faith in the future.

Loving God, thank you for walking with me during this day,

for the time when you spoke to my heart

and gently led me towards your love.  Increase my faith.
