Mass Intention

The launch of the Cause of the Sainthood of Fr. Antoine M. Garin SM at St Michael’s church, Remuera.  Mass at 7:30pm, Thursday 14 April.  Fr. Garin arrived in New Zealand in 1841.  He was the parish priest of Nelson from 1850 until his death in 1889.  In addition to his pastoral responsibilities he established three Catholic schools in Nelson and is remembered for his significant contribution to education.  He was assisted in his endeavours by Br Claude-Marie Bertrand who went to Nelson in 1850.   Br Claude-Marie was a second cousin of Fr Champagnat.
